Interview Techniques

Prior to the interview

  • Do your research. You should be able to outline what the company does and ideally what they are trying to achieve in the short term.
  • Know your CV. So that when asked you have actual examples to highlight your relevance to the position.
  • Familiarise yourself with the position description. Ensuring that you do indeed have the relevant technical experience.
  • Think about your long-term goals and how this company and position can help you achieve them.
  • Dress sharply.

During the interview

  • Be confident, and if you are nervous remember that this is natural and can be easily managed.
  • Answer the questions succinctly, try and control the desire most people have to reinforce the same point twice.
  • Ensure that you clarify what you are being asked if it’s not clear to you the first time round.
  • Round off your answers; if your explanation requires detail ensure that you conclude by summarising the relevance of your example to the question that was asked.
  • Discuss your career goals and how this position can help.
  • Be enthusiastic and show your character.
  • If there is more than one interviewer ensure you address both/them evenly when answering.
  • Ask relevant questions about the role and the company. Remembering that the interview is also an opportunity for you to identify if the position is exactly what you want.
  • Take your time, this will ensure you are relaxed.

I have worked as a contractor through Infuse Recruitment for a number of years and have always found them to be friendly, honest and trust-worthy. They bring a personal touch unlike some of the bigger agencies and, most importantly as a contractor, always pay on time. I am happy to recommend Infuse to contractors looking for their next gig and to people wanting to switch into contract work.
